The Top Running Backs To Target In Fantasy Football
David Montgomery, Houston Texans
The Houston Texans made it a point to bring David Montgomery in this offseason via trade, which was not a cheap deal.
They needed to get more physical and dominant on offense and they have accomplished that by bringing in Montgomery, but also by making significant additions on the offensive line.
Wyatt Teller and Braden Smith are known for their ability to move people in the run game, while Keylan Rutledge – who they added in the Draft – has the same mentality. This offense is going to lean heavily into the run game and Montgomery’s running style fits this new look perfectly.
The veteran RB is a steal where he’s going right now in ADP.
Cam Skattebo, New York Giants
Cam Skattebo has dodged just about every possible bullet he could this offseason with rumors circulating that John Harbaugh wanted to go big-name hunting at the RB position.
The Giants were connected to names like Kenneth Walker and Travis Etienne in free agency, but they ended up not being able to land those planes. Additionally, they were also rumored to be in on Jeremiyah Love at No. 5 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, if he had wound up still being there.
Free agency and the NFL Draft have passed though and Skattebo still stands alone at the top of this backfield and he fits the type of running back that Harbaugh is going to love once he sees him get onto the field.
We need to remember that last season, before his injury, Skattebo was dominating the touches and was being force fed as many opportunities as he could handle. In fact, from Weeks 3-7, Skattebo handled 88 touches which was only behind Christian McCaffrey and Jonathan Taylor at the RB position.
He can handle a massive workload, the Giants are going to want to run the ball early and often, and this offensive line should be able to move people off the ball to create open running lanes for the second-year RB. We need to monitor his recovery process coming off of a dislocated ankle, but if he’s looking like he’s going to be ready to go for week one, he needs to be a priority target at his current ADP (Average Draft Position).
